Publishing Tweets By Keyword On Your Website
Publishing tweets from twitter on your blog or website is relatively easy. This afternoon I decided to try and add tweets to my blog, so did some quick research on the best ways to go about doing it. The main complication was that I wanted to be able to post tweets on a specific keyword or string of keywords. There are many plug-ins that will let you publish your own tweets, but I did not come across one to publish others tweets while filtering for only certain key words.

The first thing to do is decide what you want your keyword search to include. For me, the keyword filter was “#gurucontest”, for the contest I run on this blog. Go to http://search.twitter.com and input your keyword. After the results come back, double check to make sure that is the feed you want to post to your site. If so, locate the feedburner logo on the upper right(orange icon), right click, and copy the link address. What we have just done is grab a custom RSS feed from Twitter for the keyword(s) you have entered.

The next site we need to visit is Google. If you already have a Google account, sign in, and navigate to Google Reader. We are going to open Google Reader, and choose “Add Subscription” on the left. Paste the RSS link from Twitter into the box that pops up and save. Next visit the “Settings” link, located at the top right of the screen. Here you need to navigate to subscriptions, check the box next to your twitter search, and click the “Change Folders” Button on the right. From the drop down menu select “New Folder” and give it a name. Now click the drop down box beside the “unsubscribe” button in the center of the screen, choose the new folder you just created. After it has updated, it will confirm that you are subscribed.

While still in the Settings Options, “Folders and Tags” link. Here you will be able to view you public and private options. We need to click the box beside your new folder, and using the drop down menu, change the sharing to public. Once this setting is saved, click the link to the right labeled “add a clip to your site”. This link will generate the JavaScript code you need to place on your site to view your public folder. Here you have the option to change the Title, Color, and Display properties of the template your tweets will be displayed within. When you are finished customizing, save, then copy and paste the code onto the desired page of your site.

Tips: They limit the number of tweets you can display to 10 within the template. But you can adjust this number to whatever best suites you. Look for the follow string of code: “/label/Contest Entries?n=3&callback=GRC_p” The number 3, that is the number of tweets to be displayed on your site. You can change this to any number you wish.
