Revtwt – Making Money with Twitter
www.revtwt.com claims to be the largest social conversion ad network with nearly 35 million aggregate followers amongst its members. Jeremy Schoemaker talked about how he used it to test some twitter campaigns, so I thought I would give it a try. What revtwt does is match advertisers to twitter members who are willing to tweet messages for money. The publishers design the tweet “ads”, the members choose which offers to tweet and get paid each time one of their followers click the link inside the tweet.
The signup process was simple and straight forward. Something I like on other networks, that this one doesn’t have, is the ability to sign in using a twitter account. Honestly, I do not know how that works, but it’s cool since I don’t need to remember another log in username and password. To fund your account, you can use an existing paypal account or any major debit/credit card. Choosing the latter, I added $$ to my account, and navigated to the “Create Ad” link.
I had signed up as an advertiser, and for my first ad choose to promote a CPA offer in the health field. I went over to my affiliate network, grabbed a text link, shorten it with www.tinyurl.com, then paste it into the web form on revtwt. Next is the ad title. It says that this will not show in the twitter post, but still choose carefully. This title will be displayed in the list of available offers that members will choose to promote.
After the title is the actual ad text. This is the exact message that will be tweeted. To make things simple, I looked at the CPA offers banners and text links to get an idea of the words/phrases they used in their ads. I tweaked one I like to make it more twitter friendly.
Cost per click is the amount you as a publisher are willing to pay for each verified click. Don’t worry, revtwt does an amazing job of scrubbing bad/fraud clicks. In my first ad, almost 90% of clicks got scrubbed, saving me alot of money. I am not sure what software they use to verify/scrub clicks, but it seems to work really well, maybe too well. The minimum CPC is $0.10.
Next are the category and target country options. The offer I was promoting was US only, so I selected US for target, and the appropriate category for my offer, then submitted the ad. The whole process took around 15 minutes. Each ad goes to review, and once approved shows up in the list of offers. After about eight hours my ad was approved and went live. I set up a filter in my hootsuite account for my ad so I could see each account that was tweeting my offer.
Curious about the number of offers mine competing against, I created a second account to promote tweets on the network. The network had 71 active offers, none of them in my niche. Was happy to see that there was no competition there. Skimming the top offers, I saw teeth whitening commanding the lead, paying out at 20.5 cents per approved click. To my surprise, health and beauty was the most popular category by far, with nearly 25% of the offers. Most of these were acai berry and weight loss products.
If you are looking to promote one of these offers, you have the option to see where the link takes people before you decide to tweet it. There were several offers that caught my eye, and that I may promote in the future. The important thing here is to choose offers that match your audience and their interests. This will result in many more quality clicks.
My CPC was set to 15 cents for each click to rise above the ads bidding for the minimum 10 cents. As I browsed through the offers for 15 cents, my ad was not among them. Immediately I realized that was silly of me to think the network wouldn’t take something off the top. They have to make money. So I skipped down to the 10 cent range. Nope, not there either. To my surprise, I learned that the person tweeting my ads were only being paid 7.5 cents, or 50% of my CPC cost. Seems a little salty, taking 50% off the top! I expected 25-30, but not 50%!
Overall I was happy with my first ad campaign on www.revtwt.com. I continue to use them for other offers as I refine my strategy to make money on twitter.
